One of the things every new online poker player needs to become familiar with is the Poker Rake. The Poker Rake is a percentage of the total poker pot that goes to the house (the casino). Poker rakes are usually paid in several ways, including collecting a percentage from every poker game pot. Another way is for the casinos to charge players an entry fee for playing in a poker tournament. For Casinos collecting the poker rake through the pot, the rake amount will be posted on the website, usually in a table format, so every player is aware of the rake amounts. Typically the rake is 10% of every pot up to a maximum of $3.00, but it's recommended you check with the site you're playing at since this number can vary. Poker rakes are taken from the pot before the player can collect their winnings, so the total pot is always lower than the actual winning amount. Whether the pot be $30.00, $100.00, or $1000.00 the total rake would only be $3.00 (the maximum rake).
